Commitment: Part-time (November 2025 to April 2026), up to 20 hrs/week, flexible schedule during academic term.
Hourly Rate: $23.00 (CAD)

The Communications & Digital Marketing Assistant (Part-time, Internship) will support OBAC’s storytelling, marketing, and community engagement efforts. Working closely with the Executive Director and the programs team, this person will help produce and share digital content that highlights OBAC’s participants, alumni, and programs.

This is a hands-on learning opportunity ideal for a student or recent postsecondary grad interested in a career in communications, marketing, media productions, or the nonprofit/arts sector. The role will provide opportunities to strengthen skills in digital strategy, writing, design, and analytics while contributing to meaningful, equity-building work.

Key Responsibilities
Content Creation and Marketing
  • Draft and schedule posts for OBAC’s social media channels.
  • Assist in creating visual assets using Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Support the planning and execution of marketing and outreach campaigns for OBAC’s programs and events.
  • Contribute ideas to strengthen audience engagement and digital presence.

Storytelling and Communications
  • Assist in writing and editing newsletters, alumni spotlights, and website updates.
  • Help collect stories, photos, and testimonials from OBAC’s program participants and alumni.
  • Support content planning and coordination with program staff to ensure timely updates.

Digital Analytics and Research
  • Track engagement and analytics across platforms to help assess growth and audience reach.
  • Conduct light research on sector trends and potential partnership or media opportunities.

General Support
  • Provide logistical and communications support for OBAC events (virtual or in-person).
  • Maintain organized content folders and records in Google Drive.
  • Participate in weekly team check-ins and contribute ideas to improve digital communications.

Skills & Competencies
  • Strong copy and content writing and storytelling ability (social media, blog, or short-form content)
  • Familiarity with major social media platforms and best practices for engagement
  • Basic graphic design and or video editing skills (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut, or similar tools)
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Collaborative, reliable, and open to feedback
  • Interest in media, film, digital arts, or nonprofit communications
  • Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the placement, the student will:
  • Gain practical experience in nonprofit communications and marketing
  • Build a portfolio of digital content and campaign materials
  • Develop stronger writing, planning, and social media strategy skills
  • Understand how storytelling and branding support community impact
  • Contribute meaningfully to amplifying Black creatives in Canada’s screen industries

Please note this is a part-time, hybrid role, up to 20 hours per week.
